On the afternoon of October 19, "Liangzhu Civilization in Dialogue with the World — International Youth Exchange and Experience Event," hosted by the Hangzhou International Network Communication Center and co-organized by Zhejiang Gongshang University, took place at the Hangzhou Media Group. Nearly 100 Chinese and international students from ZJSU participated, including international students from more than ten countries, who joined a journey of exploration into the Liangzhu civilization, experiencing the profound depth of Chinese civilization through dialogue and hands-on engagement.
At the opening, Wang Fenglin, Deputy General Manager of Hangzhou Network Radio and Television Co., Ltd., addressed the audience on behalf of the organizers. She first extended a warm welcome to the guests and students, then introduced the history and signature programs of the Hangzhou International Network Communication Center. She expressed the hope that the event would use Liangzhu culture as a window to build a platform for dialogue across time and between nations, fostering mutual understanding and learning among Chinese and international youth.
Pei Bei, Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation and Dean of the School of International Education at Zhejiang Gongshang University, delivered remarks as a leader from the co-organizer. She emphasized that promoting international cultural exchange and cultivating cross-cultural communication skills are essential to the university's mission. The Liangzhu civilization dialogue event, she said, was not merely a transfer of historical knowledge but a conversation about the genetic code of civilization, and she hoped that Chinese and international students would come to appreciate the weight of the Liangzhu civilization and forge friendships through the clash of ideas.
A multi-perspective dialogue session formed the core of the event. Maria (Dong Li), a Russian international student at ZJSU, presented a Liangzhu-themed video and took the stage to share her feelings, cultural shock, and reflections from repeated visits to the Liangzhu Archaeological Site. Her heartfelt sharing resonated deeply with the faculty and students present.
Chen Weige, content director at the Hangzhou International Network Communication Center, shared how modern language elements and formats can be woven into the exploration of the Liangzhu civilization, sowing seeds of understanding among youth worldwide and promoting the international dissemination and mutual appreciation of Liangzhu culture.
In the expert keynote session, Xia Yong, associate researcher at the Hangzhou Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, offered an accessible and insightful interpretation of the Liangzhu civilization, covering its historical trajectory, archaeological excavations, and distinctive cultural relics, building a professional bridge for international students to understand the history of Liangzhu.
During the interactive Q&A, Chinese and international students asked questions and exchanged views in depth, further deepening their understanding of the Liangzhu civilization.
As the event drew to a close, all participants took a group photo to capture this memorable moment of cultural exchange. Afterwards, guided by the staff, faculty and students visited a photo exhibition on Liangzhu culture, gaining a vivid and direct appreciation of the unique charm of the Liangzhu civilization.
The event provided ZJSU international students with a platform to gain in-depth knowledge of the Liangzhu civilization and to interact with Chinese and international youth alike. It not only enriched their cultural experiences but also helped them become envoys of cultural exchange between China and the world, bringing the Liangzhu civilization to a broader global stage.
