To foster a stronger academic atmosphere, broaden students' research horizons, sharpen their research skills, and draw on the exemplary and guiding role of outstanding alumni, the College of International Education (CIE) of Zhejiang Gongshang University held an academic sharing session of the Chulan Lecture Series on March 28. The guest speaker was Beza Bh Abebe Bahiru, a Lecturer at the Law School of Zhejiang Normal University and a PhD graduate in International Law from ZJSU. Under the theme “How to Do Research: From Idea to Publication,” he engaged in in-depth exchanges and shared insights with the faculty and students present.

The lecture featured Beza Bh Abebe Bahiru, a lecturer at the Law School of Zhejiang Normal University and a PhD graduate in International Law from Zhejiang Gongshang University, as the speaker. Beza Bh Abebe Bahiru (Abei), from Ethiopia, received the President's Scholarship (full scholarship) as a 2021 PhD student at the School of Law, ZJSU. During his doctoral studies, he was deeply involved in academic research and international scholarly exchange, serving as a reviewer for the European Scientific Journal. He was also selected for the Young Talent Program in International Criminal Law at the Nuremberg Academy in Germany, completed the training successfully, and earned official certification. In addition, he served as a judge for the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, demonstrating solid professional competence and a broad international outlook. Throughout his time at ZJSU, he actively took part in academic and practical activities, emerging as an outstanding representative among international students.

Drawing on his own study and research experience, the speaker gave a systematic overview of the pathway from identifying a topic to publishing findings, with a focus on choosing a research topic, conducting a literature review, structuring a paper, navigating submission and publication, and using research tools to boost efficiency. The talk was logically organized, rich in concrete examples, and offered both theoretical depth and strong practical guidance.
In the lecture, the speaker drew on his own academic and research experiences to systematically introduce the fundamental process of conducting academic research—from topic selection to publication. He focused on key aspects such as identifying research topics, conducting literature reviews, structuring academic papers, navigating the submission and publication process, and utilizing research tools to improve efficiency. The presentation was well-structured, supported by concrete examples, and offered both theoretical depth and strong practical guidance.
The audience listened attentively and thought actively, creating a vibrant academic atmosphere. In the interactive Q&A, students raised questions based on their own studies and research, particularly on paper publication, and the speaker responded to each one. Through this lecture, students gained a clearer understanding of the fundamentals of academic research and the paper-writing process, and grew more confident in pursuing scholarly inquiry.
